Through different incarnations and line-ups, Power Movement Unlimited has been crafting a unique sound since the late Eighties. First established to produce hip-hop tracks, Power Move Unlimited has evolved to compose and compile music from and for almost every genre. Mixing various sounds and instruments into an “Eclectic Electric Gumbo,” the Power Move Unlimited sound is not about thinking outside the box, but taking up permanent residence there.
Recorded entirely in Richmond Virginia at Mise En Gard Studiotechniques, Power Move Unlimited is proud to release the debut Landscapes Vol.1 (Gotham Rising).
A concept recording seeking to showcase a day in the life of a city, the opening “Welcome 2 Gotham (Come As U R)” paints the scene of the rising morning sun casting shadows and ghosts on the gothic structures of the old city before segueing into “Gotham Skyline” which expands the skyline with modern, towering scrapers against the backdrop of a bustling metropolis. The police come out to show presence in “Kingston Bounce (Gotham’s Finest)”, warning not to take a “Wrong Turn” in the big city and advising a “Quik Getaway” if you do. City officials take cover high above the city in “The Lab”, wondering “Why (Oh Why)” the city is besieged with so many societal ills and looking, praying for “Elev8ion”. The anthem “Say What Say (Pardon My Swagga)” blare from passing car stereos on the streets below, showcasing the proud citizenry of this shining beacon. Taking a short trip from the hustle and bustle of everyday life, I partake in a delicious “Sunday Brunch,” looking back at “My Life”, with a Mohita and “Cigarro Cubano”. In a moment of clarity, I see the future of this city, restored to its former glory, in “The Dreamtime (Lullaby for Dabney)”; right before I’m brought back to the current reality as I view the “Gotham Skyline (Reprise)” as the sun starts to fade and the rain washes away the debris, silhouetting the city as is lights up for the night.
But the city never sleeps, so let’s go out and enjoy “My Life (Shockhoe Bottom Mix)” before the sun rises again.
